Part Time Sorter

Eastern Carolina Vocational Center Inc. has an opening for (1) Part Time Sorter in the Materials Recovery Facility (Recycling Center). This position is primarily responsible for sorting glass, plastics, aluminum, and paper products from commingled recyclables as they pass on a conveyer. The opening is for the day shift (12:30pm – 4:30pm).

Some of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities are:

·     Willing to work at various stations as directed by the supervisor

·     Differentiate between acceptable and unacceptable materials

·     Sort and place recyclable products in designated bin according to factors such as glass, plastics, aluminum and paper products to ensure correct processing and usage

Physical Demands

·       Light work with lifting and/or moving objects up to 10-20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently and walking or standing most of the time.

·       Ability to reach, handle, finger

·       Repetitive use of hands/arms

Work Environment

·       Exposure to extreme weather conditions (hot in the summer; cold in the winter)

·       Work around moving machinery and equipment

·       Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, oil, fumes

·       Exposure to other potential hazards including blood, bodily fluids, chemical spills, etc.

·       Repetitive use of hands/arms

·       Frequent Interruptions
