2021 State of NC Internship Program

The State of North Carolina Internship Program is offering paid summer internship opportunities in state government agencies. Applications for the Summer 2021 State of North Carolina Internship Program are now being accepted.

 

A variety of professional internship opportunities are located across the state and are available to North Carolina residents studying at the undergraduate or graduate level, or in law school in various disciplines. Summer interns work full-time (40 hours a week) for a period of 10-weeks at a wage of $8.25/hour. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

 

  • An applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college, university, law school, community college or technical institute in North Carolina or a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution out of state.
  • Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2021.
  • Community college students must have completed their first year completed before beginning the internship.
  • Applicants must be continuing their education in the fall following their participation in the program.
  • To qualify for a law internship, applicants must have completed at least one year of law school before the beginning of the internship, unless other majors are listed.
  • Students having previously held paid internships with this program are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be willing and able to work full-time for the entire 10-week internship. Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.

Job Coach

Eastern Carolina Vocational Center Inc. has an opening for a JOB COACH in the PROGRAMS Department. This position is primarily responsible for assisting persons with disabilities with employment readiness, provides one-on-one training, assists with gaining employment, and provides on-going support services in community-based work settings. 75% of all task time expected to occur in community settings vs office work after initial training period.


Some of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities are:

  • Maintain brand standards in representing the organization/consumer with employers.
  • Hands on instruction with consumers in learning about how to perform job duties.
  • Encourage development of appropriate work skills and behaviors.
  • Daily documentation of consumer progress.
  • Completes intake process with clients
  • Locate barriers of client employment, such as inflexible schedules and transportation problems and work with clients to develop strategies for overcoming these barriers.
  • Involves consumer in employment readiness activities, which may include: Job shadowing, informational interviews, occupational observation, job sampling and situational assessment
  • Develop and maintain contact with employers within the local business community.



Competencies:

  • Critical Thinking and Reasoning- Apply principles of rational systems to carry out instructions furnished in written or verbal situations. Regular substantive decisions. Job content is determined by the incumbent within the bounds of general job objectives.
  • Communication- Ability to understand verbal work orders and instructions; Write straightforward material such as progress reports, procedures, or nonstandard letters. Read and understand material such as very specialized and technical manuals, laws and regulations, etc. Incidental public contact requires normal courtesy, giving/receiving and explaining information, handling complaints, teaching/training, and interpreting and resolving conflicts.
  • Computer Literacy – Basic knowledge of computer and computer programming use; Software used: SIGMUND, NeoCertified email and Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel,etc.).





Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, Associate degree required.
  • 1-2 years’ experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record to transport clients in company vehicles.

Industrial Sewing Machine Operator Job Description

Our company is looking for a Sewing Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this position, you will use a sewing machine and tools to make curtains, cushions, hammocks and other outdoor fabric products. Although no prior sewing experience is required, our ideal candidate has several years of sewing experience, preferably in industrial sewing and or upholstery repair. You also need strong manual dexterity and the physical stamina to stay efficient throughout your whole shift.

Use your machine to make products
Make repairs as necessary

Starting wage for new employee with no prior sewing experience is $9.00 per hour.

Part-Time Cleaner



Eastern Carolina Vocational Center Inc. has an opening for a PART-TIME CLEANER in the JANITORIAL DEPARTMENT. This position is responsible for keeping building and grounds in a clean and orderly condition. Perform duties such as cleaning floors, glass, and removing trash/recycled material.
Hours: Mon – Fri; 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm. County Building
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Carry bathroom items and cleaning supplies, using wheeled carts.
  • Services, cleans, and replenishes supply in restrooms.
  • Gathers and empty trash or recyclable materials.
  • Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
  • Clean windows and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and cloths.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming them
Position Requirements:
Background check must be favorable to work in a multiple office buildings. Dependable transportation and excellent attendance is a must.

Retention and Expansion Specialist

The Retention and Expansion Specialist position, under limited supervision, performs skilled professional work in providing services to existing industries and start-up technology-based companies in Pitt County.  As an integral part of the Pitt County Industrial Development Commission Team, the Retention and Expansion Specialist develops and implements a program of services for existing industries to encourage retention and expansion as well as direct oversight of the Technology Enterprise Center and supports small business and entrepreneurship in conjunction with state and local partners.  The work involves networking within the business and economic development communities to discover and create opportunities to assist existing industries and working with existing industries, public schools, the community college and community college system, and the university to develop the local workforce.

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Public Administration, Community Planning & Management or directly related field and five years of progressively responsible and related experience with a preference for management and supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of training, experience, and education  which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
